From April 20, the visa regime for citizens of Tajikistan will begin to operate in Turkey, the Tajik 'Khovar' state agency reports, referring to the country's Foreign Ministry. Following Ankara's decision, Dushanbe advised its citizens not to use Turkey as a transit travel country. This was announced by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Samadi.
On April 5, Turkish President Recep Erdogan signed a decree to abolish the visa-free regime for citizens of Tajikistan. Although the reasons for the decision were not stated, Russian media linked it to the Crocus City Hall attack. Citizens of Tajikistan are suspected of terrorism.
The Tajik side, as noted in the Foreign Ministry, is discussing the issue of establishing a visa regime for Turkish citizens based on the principle of reciprocity.
