The chief adviser of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Mehmet Uçum, stated that the authorities do not plan to hold snap presidential elections until the end of Erdoğan's term of office in 2028.
"Turkey will carry out reforms in all areas for four years without snap elections until 2028. Under his leadership, President Erdogan will take Turkey to a new stage. No one should doubt this," the advisor wrote in X.
Uçum added that "from the point of view of the functioning of the presidential system, it is impossible to build arguments for the government and the parliament to hold special elections based on the results of the local elections. In his opinion, "these are vain hopes and judgments" which "some circles will try to form", but will not be taken into account.
According to the law, the elections of the president of Turkey and the new parliament are held simultaneously.
