The President of the RA National Assembly Alen Simonyan met with the Head of the delegation of the United Kingdom to Inter-Parliamentary Union Karen Bradley within the framework of the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union being held in Geneva.
The Head of Parliament underscored the sustainable development of bilateral relations between Armenia and the United Kingdom .
“Armenia highlights the development of bilateral relations with the United Kingdom at the level of strategic dialogue,” the NA President said.
He highly appreciated the cooperation between the legislative bodies of Armenia and the United Kingdom and underlined the positive dynamics of mutual visits and personal contacts between the two countries.
“Democracy is our only security system, and in this respect also I should stress the role of the United Kingdom in boosting the institutional formation and supporting the agenda of reforms based on common values.” Alen Simonyan stressed.
The security situation created in the South Caucasus, the social problems of the persons displaced from Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia, the process of the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations and the establishment of security and peace in the region were discussed at the meeting.
Touching upon the problem of Armenian prisoners of wars being held in Azerbaijan, Alen Simonyan emphasized the support of Great Britain in protecting and promoting international law in the region.
