Iran’s president Ebrahim Raisi congratulated his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on his victory in the election that extended his term to another six-year, making him the longest-serving leader in the post-Soviet era, IRNA New agency reports.
In his message, Raisi felicitated Putin’s landslide win and his re-election as the president of the Russian Federation.
According to a statement by Iran’s embassy in Moscow, Raisi expressed his satisfaction with the growing relations between Iran and Russia and emphasized the need to boost cooperation further.
The presidents referred to the South Caucasus. According to the Iranian side, Raisi described the developments in the region as sensitive, emphasized the stability of the region and Iran's readiness to protect its strategic interests.
The parties discussed cooperation within the SCO and BRICS framework, the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Vladimir Putin won over 87% of the votes and re-elected for the fifth time to serve the country as president. Presidential election was held in Russia from March 15 to March 17, 2024.
