According to President of the European Council Charles Michel, it is time to take responsibility for your security, stop relying on "election cycles in the United States," and also make Ukraine a priority.
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, called for preparing for defense and switching to a "war economy" mode. According to him, at the moment the EU has been facing a serious problem since the Second World War, therefore, wishing for peace, "we should prepare for war," he noted. Michel advocated providing sufficient military assistance to Ukraine and making it a priority. In particular, by 2030, it is planned to double purchases from European industry, which will strengthen the defense industry.
"We must be well prepared from the point of view of defense and switch to the "war economy" mode. It's time to take responsibility for your own safety. We can no longer rely on others or depend on election cycles in the United States or anywhere else," La Libre Belgique newspaper reports him as saying.
Earlier, the EU summit approved a long-term budget assistance program for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros. Kiev's financial support is designed for four years, and all 27 leaders have agreed on this amount of assistance within the framework of the multi-year EU budget.
