On March 9, In Tehran, regular political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran were held. Delegations were headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan and Ali Bagheri, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran.
Interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues on Armenia-Iran bilateral relations, regional developments, and cooperation within multilateral platforms.
On the sidelines of the political consultations delegation headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia was received by Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Following the consultations, the parties adopted the joint statement presented below.
“On the invitation of H.E. Mr. Ali Bagheri, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a delegation headed by H.E. Mr.Vahan Kostanyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, visited Tehran on 9 March 2024 to hold the new round of consultations between the two deputy ministers.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the most important issues in bilateral relations, regional and international developments.
Expressing their satisfaction with the growing bilateral relations, the two sides emphasized the importance of deepening relations and promoting the level of cooperation.
Referring to the 18th meeting of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission between the two countries in Tehran (14-15 February, 2024), the two sides emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of the agreements made in the signed MoU.
Referring to the peace negotiations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the two sides emphasized the importance of resolving the remaining issues exclusively by peaceful means in order to achieve sustainable peace and strengthening the regional connectivity and cooperation in South Caucasus.
In this regard, the parties emphasized the necessity to respect the sovereignty, jurisdiction, equality, reciprocity and inviolability of internationally recognized borders.
The parties emphasized the importance of regular consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries in different sectors and levels and agreed that the next round of consultations between the political deputies will be held in Armenia within the next six months.”
