Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan conveyed his condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin following the passing of Nikolay Ryzhkov, the former Premier of the Soviet Union and a National Hero of Armenia.
The letter runs as follows:
“Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Nikolai Ivanovich Ryzhkov, former head of the USSR government. Heading the USSR's Council of Ministers, Nikolai Ryzhkov coordinated the efforts to mitigate the consequences of the devastating earthquake that resulted in thousands of lives lost in Spitak city, Armenia.
Having held various esteemed positions and fulfilling his responsibilities, Nikolai Ryzhkov indelibly etched his name into the memory of the Armenian people as a steadfast friend who reached out for help at the most difficult time, earning him the highest title of the National Hero of the Republic of Armenia.
Please extend words of sympathy and support to the family and relatives of Nikolai Ryzhkov on behalf of both the entire people of Armenia and myself.”
