Her presence in the Ukrainian capital was not just a diplomatic gesture but a powerful statement of unwavering support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing struggle against Russian aggression.
Taking to
social media to express her sentiments, von der Leyen highlighted the purpose of her visit, stating,
"In Kyiv to mark the anniversary of the 2nd year of Russia’s war on Ukraine. And to celebrate the extraordinary resistance of the Ukrainian people."
Besides von der Leyen, the prime ministers of Canada, Italy, and Belgium are also in Kyiv.
