The remains of Armenian hero of French resistance movement Missak Manouchian and his wife Meline Manouchian were buried in the Paris Pantheon of the greatest figures of France. During the solemn ceremony, French President Emmanuel Macron referred to the life and activities of Missak Manouchian, his contribution to France.
"Is this how people live, so many decades have passed, is it in this way that people live freely? Missak Manouchianwas free when he walked down the street, when he passed this Pantheon where his remains are enshrined, he discovered French books a few steps away, he imagined what his homeland, Armenia, would be like, he imagined his father, Gevorg , who was killed by the Turks when Missak was a child, remembered his mother dying of disease and starvation on the forced migration route, events that haunted him throughout his life.
Manouchian called himself "a tiger full of rage" when he was arrested, but Meline was with him in all the odysseys and supported him. The final, permanent choice was freedom.
He, who loved to love, decides to kill in March 1943. Is it so that people dream, yes it is so, and yes it is here, because they were estranged from the world and they decided to fight", Macron said in his tribute speech.
