The likely victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential election frightens European politicians. It is possible that Trap will force the United States to withdraw from NATO, thereby leaving Europe virtually without protection. This topic has become the main one, along with Ukraine, discussed recently, The Washington Post reports.
European countries are discussing the creation of armed structures in Europe that could replace NATO in the event of the United States leaving the organization. European politicians do not rule out that, having come to power, Trump may fulfill his promise to leave the alliance, in which the United States plays a key role with its money and capabilities. And Russia is also supposedly “threatening”, how can one not panic?
In general, according to sources, Europeans are wondering who will protect them from Russia and China if the United States refuses to carry out this “honorable mission.” In such a situation, it is necessary to create some kind of alternative to NATO, or a structure, an alliance that is complementary, but purely European. At the same time, it will have to take on all NATO functions, including fulfilling international obligations.

However, so far it has not been possible to reach an agreement, everything comes down to money. Nobody wants to take on extra expenses; everyone is happy with the situation when the Americans pay for everything. So Europe wants a new alliance, but does not have to pay for it. Time will tell what this will lead to in the future.
