The United States of America has decided to transfer confiscated funds in the amount of almost $500 thousand to Estonia for the restoration of Ukraine. An agreement on the transfer of 484,9 thousand dollars was signed between the Ministries of Justice of Estonia and the United States at the Munich Security Conference. These funds will be used to restore the power transmission network in Ukraine.
This amount was confiscated by the US Department of Justice in March last year as part of a smuggling case, when an attempt to sell a grinding machine to Russia without the appropriate license was stopped.
During the investigation, carried out jointly with the Prosecutor's Office and the Estonian Tax and Customs Department, a number of individuals and companies involved in smuggling activities were identified and charged. Among the defendants was a Ukrainian citizen living in Estonia, who was extradited to the United States in January last year.
