The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan responded to the meeting of Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Head of Diplomacy of the European Union Josep Borrell in Brussels and the latter's statement that the actions of the Azerbaijani side at the border were disproportionate. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry described Borrell's speech as baseless. The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan has accused the head of EU diplomacy for taking a pro-Armenian position.
Baku also referred to Borrell's observation that the latest border tensions prove the need for the withdrawal of the armed forces. According to the Azerbaijani side, this proposal "has no practical significance".
The Azerbaijani side also demanded not to call the Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh "forcefully displaced".
"It is regrettable that despite the peace-loving initiatives of the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, the supreme representative of foreign relations has adopted a one-sided pro-Armenian position and thus creates a gap between Azerbaijan and EU institutions, as well as isolates himself from the Azerbaijan-Armenia settlement process," the statement reads.
