On February 13, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the member of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom Parliament Sir John Whittingdale, Armenian Parliament press office reports.
Welcoming the guest, Alen Simonyan highly appreciated the positive dynamics of the Armenia-United Kingdom relations and thanked his colleagues for their visit.
At the beginning of the meeting the NA President touched upon the military provocation carried out by Azerbaijan on February 13, as a consequence of which the Armenian side has casualties and wounded. He presented the security problems existing in the regions to his colleagues and expressed the concerns of the Armenian side.
“The path of democracy and the cooperation with the international colleagues are to be our only security system, and conditioned by that I should mention that your visit to the Republic of Armenia is special for us,” the NA President noted.
Sir John Whittingdale expressed his condolences and support to the families of the deceased because of military action of Azerbaijan and to the Armenian people.
The Armenia-United Kingdom inter-parliamentary cooperation, the expansion of collaboration in the security, in trade-economic and other directions and a number of issues regarding the bilateral cooperation were on the agenda of the meeting.
The British parliamentarians recorded with satisfaction the continuous democratic reforms in Armenia and expressed their readiness for boosting the further development of those reforms.
