Azerbaijan is determined to quickly conclude the peace treaty negotiations with Armenia. Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Yevdokimov informed Izvestiya about this.
"The issue related to Karabakh is closed. All these years, Russia has made efforts to solve the Karabakh issue peacefully. Unfortunately, it did not work, this topic was closed in September with military action. Russia always plays a very important role in the issue of settlement, and now it is ready to provide maximum support in the peace treaty negotiations," Yevdokimov noted.
According to the ambassador, what the Azerbaijani side offers is completely justified, standard wording and articles, which, as a rule, are in the peace agreements signed between the parties. And, in principle, based on the proposals made by Baku, in his opinion, the negotiations can be completed quite quickly.
"We are ready to provide the Moscow platform, if necessary, we are ready to provide our expertise, our advice on the text. Here we have very good relations with our Azerbaijani partners.
I see that Azerbaijan is determined to finish the negotiations for the signing of the peace treaty very quickly. But, as we know, in order to complete the negotiations, both sides must have such a desire," the ambassador said.
As for the future regime of the presence of peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, the ambassador stated that the dates of the next round of negotiations between Moscow and Baku regarding the peacekeeping troops are being agreed with the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, their stay expires in 2025.
"Now the Russian peacekeepers, together with the Azerbaijani forces, are patrolling the area, protecting the buildings and cultural structures," concluded the ambassador.
