Today, during the weekly briefing, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, also referred to the topic of Armenia's possible EU membership.
“First, I have never heard that membership in the European Union is determined by self-declaration. Second, it is the sovereign task of each state to determine its national course in accordance with the interests of the people. Naturally, each country is free to choose what it deems necessary.
I just listed a whole set of agreements in the field of security, which implies mutual obligations, we have the same package in the field of trade and economic relations, humanitarian relations.
I think everyone knows and remembers that, we are committed to all those commitments. For us it is not an empty expression, for us these are the interests of the peoples of our countries.
In my opinion, it is the task of every state, figure and all state institutions not to forget that the people are the first and that everything should be done for the welfare and the realization of the goals and objectives that the people have set. The rest should be resolved within each sovereign state and harmonized, taking into account the necessity of the actually existing desires.
