I think document that we signed with the Prime Minister of Georgia is very important. I want to thank Irakli Garibashvili for that result, because we really worked very intensively in recent years to create that political content in our relations. And I'm sure, that with the new government, the new prime minister, we will continue in the same spirit, too, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said about this during the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session, responding to the question of ‘Civil Contract’ faction member Shirak Torosyan about signing of the declaration of strategic partnership with Georgia.
“Our relations with Georgia are very important, in fact, and we have a strategic perception, and so does Georgia. Thus, we mutually record that perception, and if you read the text of the document, you saw that, in fact, there is an intention to deepen cooperation in all directions. It is a declaration, an intention that has yet to be realized.
Of course, it should be noted that our trade turnover with Georgia has increased significantly, and last year, our trade turnover exceeded $1 billion. There is actually a lot of potential,” said the Prime Minister.
He emphasized that a regionally important record was made. “When we talk about the legitimacy of our policies, the talk related to these external environments is immediately perceived in the context of Armenia-Turkey relations, and that is understandable, but the context is much broader there. We recorded our clear position and attitude regarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia. Georgia, for its part, expressed its clear attitude towards the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia. These are, in fact, in a sense new discourses, which seem to be just a sentence, but it is such sentences that open up, or the absence of such sentences, that narrows or closes the further way of cooperation. Now that road is wider and more accessible,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
