Reuters. Tempers were frayed at a Brussels farmer’s demonstration on Thursday (February 1) as protesters threw stones and objects at police as EU leaders were meeting for a Ukraine financing summit.
Police hosed down angry farmers who set tyres, cardboard boxes and hay ablaze at a protest in front of the European Parliament.
A toppled statue could also be seen, thought to be part of a larger piece, "The Steelworker" that was a tribute to a British-Belgian industrialist.
Thousands of tractors were also blocking streets and major roads around the Belgian capital.
The protesters are demanding EU leaders do more to help them with taxes and rising costs.
