A drone landed on the premises of an oil refinery in St. Petersburg after being downed by air defense forces on Tuesday night, the news outlet Fontanka and the Telegram channel “Mash na Moike” reported.
According to Fontanka, the aircraft was struck by an S-400 missile system over the town of Kolpino at 4:20 a.m. but continued flying for about 30 minutes before falling on the Nevsky Mazut refinery, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) southeast of Kolpino.
“According to preliminary information, there was no serious fire, and three empty cisterns [that caught on fire] were quickly extinguished,” Fontanka wrote. It later reported that vehicles parked at the facility were damaged by debris from the drone.
In addition, the city’s Pulkovo airport reportedly suspended all flights between 3:53 a.m. and 5:11 a.m.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the incident. On Wednesday morning, the ministry reported that air defense forces downed one drone in the Pskov region overnight.
