An eyewitness video captured the dramatic moment when a large gas explosion rocked Mongolia's capital city of Ulaanbaatar on Wednesday (January 24), sending fire sparks flying into the resident's home, Reuters reports.
The footage, taken after 1:00 a.m. (1700 GMT on January 23) from the window of an apartment building, showed a truck on fire in the middle of a street. A large blast soon followed, sending sparks flying through the eyewitness' home. The large blaze quickly engulfed several nearby buildings, including a residential building, according to local media.
At least six people were killed including three firefighters after the truck carrying 60 tons of liquefied natural gas exploded, according to Mongolia's emergency officials.
At least 11 people were injured in the fire near the Dunjingarav market, Mongolia's Emergency Management Office said in a post on Facebook. More than 600 firefighters 100 vehicles were involved in putting the fire out, which was eventually extinguished.
