On the 34th anniversary of the Armenians’ pogroms committed in Baku on January 13-19, 1990 the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Sargis Khandanyan and a group of deputies of the NA Civil Contract Faction visited Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.
The deputies laid flowers at the cross-stone perpetuating the memory of the Armenians killed in Baku, and homoured their memory bowing in silence.
“We commemorate the memory of our compatriots, who have become victims of the Armenians’ pogroms committed in 1990, and it is one of the most painful pages of our history. Unfortunately, the Soviet authorities and the Soviet Azerbaijan authorities of that time also did not make sufficient effort to investigate and punish the pogrom-makers,” Sargis Khandanyan said.
According to him, the pogroms committed under the silence of the international community were not studied even by the same community and did not receive political assessment and condemnation, which became an occasion that the neighbouring country would continue the same policy also later on.
