Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt and Jordan have privately prepared a plan for the settlement of the situation in Gaza and the post-war development of the region and have received the support of the United States. However, Bloomberg, citing its sources, reports that Israel does not believe in the success of the initiative.
The initiative, according to the agency, includes the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, which they were preparing for with the mediation of the United States before the escalation of the Middle East conflict on October 7, 2023. In addition, the Arab countries are ready to offer significant financial assistance for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. However, they are reluctant to make large financial commitments without assurances that Israel will not destroy the rebuilt Palestinian infrastructure.
The five Arab countries also expressed their willingness to train the Palestinian security forces so that they can effectively provide security. Washington insists that the Gaza Strip be controlled by the Palestinians. Israel, however, insists that after the end of the fighting, the Jewish state itself should control security in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Two unnamed officials told the news agency that progress on the settlement will not be possible as long as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing coalition is in power.
