During the hearing on the resolution to impose sanctions against Azerbaijan in the French Senate, the author of the draft resolution, Senator Bruno Retailleau, started his speech with a quote from Anatole France. "Somewhere in the East, our sister is dying." These words of the French writer were said in 1916 during the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
Retailleau further reminded that in September 2023, the entire Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh left their native land in just three days.
"The Armenian issue is a French issue," said the Senator, emphasizing that the draft resolution is inter-party, and this speaks of the united position of France.
Lies and tyranny go hand in hand, said Bruno Retailleau, talking about Aliyev's regime.
"Baku's position is denial of genocide, expansionism. Aliyev constantly says that Yerevan is an Azerbaijani city stolen by Armenians," Bruno Retailleau stated.
The senator recalled the demand of Erdogan and Aliyev to open the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor' to them, which is a violation of Armenia's sovereignty.
Retailleau called on UNESCO to send an urgent mission to Nagorno-Karabakh to assess the state of Armenian cultural heritage.
