A cargo ship near Yemen has been hit from above by a missile, causing damage to a hold, in the latest attack on Red Sea shipping,
The Guardian reports.
The M/V Gibraltar Eagle, a Marshall Islands-flagged, US-owned, bulk carrier, was hit by an anti-ship ballistic missile fired from a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen, the US military said. It said the ship reported no injuries or significant damage and was continuing its journey.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said the vessel was 95 nautical miles south-east of Aden and advised vessels to transit with caution. The British maritime security company Ambrey said three missiles were launched by the Houthis but two did not reach the sea.
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis have been attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea it says are linked to Israel or bound for Israeli ports, aiming to support Palestinians in the war in Gaza.
