Nothing drastic happened - the negotiations, the exchange are continuing, and in a positive sense, it can be said that there is development, and the Prime Minister's response can be called more of a surprise, because often this rhetoric is outside of the conversations, the exchanged documents, theses that have been found. It is often unclear. There is no regression. There is surprise and bewilderment about the rhetoric the Prime Minister gave his reaction to. This was announced by Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, referring to the reaction of Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to the statements of the President of Azerbaijan.
Turning to the question of what the negotiations are about after those statements, Alen Simonyan said:
"Negotiations are about peace. The parties undertake to take one step back each. The entire contract and all theses that exist apply to both parties. There is no thesis, there is nothing in the agreement that, for example, refers to one side, Azerbaijan alone should take such a step. When we talk about the withdrawal of troops, we talk about the mirror withdrawal. When it comes to some territories, one place is Armenia, the other is Azerbaijan, all theses refer to both Azerbaijan and Armenia. There is no point where it is said that Armenia unilaterally agrees with this agreement..."
As for the acceptance of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Speaker of the National Assembly said: "The President of Azerbaijan has repeatedly made a statement about the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, made it publicly. In the presence of the President of the Russian Federation, also during his interviews. If we are talking about 29,800 square kilometers, yes, that number was not stated literally, and we are waiting and expecting that this will also happen, but the explanation and reasons for this from the Azerbaijani side is that without delimitation, demarcation they still avoid to announce a specific number. Maybe it's being kept in some way for bargaining or further negotiations, but to say retrograde means that something happened and we've backed away from it. I can say that there is a treatyunder discussion, by the clauses of which we are moving forward as of now."
