Greece has been monitoring the actions in the Caucasus region since the beginning, and we have expressed our solidarity with the Armenian people and sent humanitarian aid to those in need following these massive atrocities. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Giorgos Gerapetritis announced this during a joint press conference with Armenia’s Foreign Minister.
“Greece relies on cornerstone missions and recognizes regional sovereignty, and believes that the peace agenda should be advanced on the basis of these principles, cornerstone principles.
We exclude the use of any kind of force and aggression, and we advocate dialogue. In this regard, we have combined the bilateral declaration that was obtained between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which allows for the bilateral release of prisoners and the increase in the level of trust. We assume that the talks and discussions will be revised, consolidating security and stability in this South Caucasus region.
The guiding principles for both sides should be long-term, [that is] stable regional peace and friendly relations between neighboring countries,” the Minister said.
Referring to the principles included in the Crossroads of Peace initiative, the Greek Foreign Minister described them as “realistic and inclusive”.
Giorgos Gerapetritis also announced that Greece is ready to support Armenia in terms of both humanitarian aid and peace-making processes.
“You can rely on the Government of Greece and the people of Greece in all respects,” the Minister said at the end of his speech.
