Azerbaijan is negotiating with Armenia on various platforms in good faith to achieve the long-awaited peace in the region, said Hikmet Hajiyev, advisor on foreign policy to the President of Azerbaijan, in an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung.
"We really believe that there is a historic opportunity to conclude a peace treaty, and we should not miss that opportunity. Significant progress has been made on the text of the peace treaty, but there are still several unresolved issues. At the moment, we don't see any serious obstacles to the conclusion of a peace treaty," Hajiyev said, adding that it is difficult to talk about specific dates, because the continuation of negotiations is necessary to complete the process.
According to Aliyev's adviser, the peace treaty should not be a hostage to border delimitation. He noted that although the negotiations on the peace treaty and demarcation and delimitation are going on in parallel, they are in two different formats.
Hajiyev also stated that they imagine the connection with Nakhijevan without the customs and border control of the Armenian side.
