Dear compatriots,
This year we had placed a Christmas tree in the National Assembly Park, where the children should write down their wishes. At the end of the day there were 100 letters with dreams on the Christmas tree placed in the Park addressed to Santa Claus. One of them wanted a doll, another one – health to the Mother, the next one – a self-propelled vehicle, especially pointed out with “a remote control,” but 93 out of those hundred letters contained rather unexpectedly similar dreams and wishes: Davit, Armen, Ani, Arpi, Hayk, Ruben and the remaining children with this or other formulation had written one thing that everyone’s dream is one – peace.
Frankly speaking, I had prepared a New Year message with other content, but what I read, fully changed the logic and the content of this message.
Our children are the purest and honest judges in our life, and this was an unexpected and very sensitive moment for the National Assembly, for our team: How and with what should be filled the life of our 7, 8, 9 year-old children that instead of dreaming about their dolls, toys they dream about peace…
The children, who wanted to have dolls or other toys, the National Assembly, of course, will fulfill their dreams and wishes. All of us should fulfill the dreams and wishes of prevailing 93 children.
Yes, that is not easy, it is even very difficult, but the possibility of peace has never been so close to us.
We know how to fight, and because of that, we are obliged to bring peace to Armenia, the Armenian people, we are obliged to fulfill our children’s dreams.
We know how to fight, and because of that, we are obliged to bring peace to Armenia, the Armenian people, we are obliged to fulfill our children’s dreams.
We may not agree with each other on many issues, but on this issue we should be united: We should achieve peace and establish normal relations with all our neighbours.
Yes! It is difficult, but we should put an end to hatred, intolerance, we should stop the search for the stronger and better one in the history and reality, also the vicious custom of boasting ourselves and putting ourselves above others: This is the real power, this is the real victory.
Let us build an atmosphere, where our children will live a peaceful, happy and carefree life, that is what first of all we should strive to leave our real legacy for our generation.
Therefore, let us raise a glass to our families, to our children and, certainly, to free, sovereign, peaceful and long-lasting Republic of Armenia.
Happy New Year and Holy Nativity!
Let God help us.
