In an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, which dedicated an article to the deterioration of Franco-Azerbaijani relations, Elchin Amirbayov, the representative of the President of Azerbaijan for special assignments, stated the following:
He noted that the reason for the observed deterioration in bilateral relations is France’s absolutely unfair and biased pro-Armenian stance on the issue of the Armenian-Azerbaijani confrontation.
For a long time, with its destructive actions, France has been undermining the prospects for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan by providing Armenia with various kinds of diplomatic, economic, and recently military support.
Attempts to instrumentalize various international platforms, such as the UN Security Council, the European Union, and its institutions, to promote blatantly anti-Azerbaijani initiatives have not only completely undermined France’s already dubious reputation as a possible mediator but have also seriously damaged Baku’s trust in the European Union itself, where France plays a leading role.
Amirbayov emphasized that the supply of lethal weapons by Paris to Yerevan destabilizes and undermines security in the South Caucasus region, pushing it towards new military conflicts, a senseless arms race, and artificially delaying the prospects of achieving peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
It is evident, he concluded, that France just can’t digest Azerbaijan’s victory, he concluded.
Earlier, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced that relations between Baku and Paris are at their lowest level in the last 30 years.
