Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the Committee on Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots of the Russian State Duma on CIS affairs, told Свободная Пресса ('Svobodnaya Pressa' - Free Press) that the Armenian-Azerbaijani issue was a difficult issue for Russia for many years, especially when Baku started its activities.
"Now it seems to me that Armenia and Azerbaijan are really one step away from signing a peace treaty. The events that took place and eventually led to the current situation, unfolded correctly. Only the three regional neighbors - Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia - should have come to an agreement," said Kalashnikov, noting that he never believed in the effectiveness of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.
According to the Russian deputy, Armenia should establish neighborly relations with the neighboring states, Turkey and Azerbaijan. In his opinion, Armenia should think and create some corridors that will be economically beneficial, including for the neighbors.
"It is also beneficial to Russia, because we can open a corridor through them to the south, and reach an agreement with the same Georgia. In my opinion, the situation is quite favorable," said Kalashnikov.
