The death toll in Gaza following Israel's retaliatory action against Hamas after the October 7 assault has now topped 20,0000, a hospital director in Rafah said on Friday (December 22), Reuters reports.
Doctor Marwan al-Hams of the Abu Yousef al-Najjar hospital said about 70% percent of the dead were women and children and many patients had toi be treated on the hospital floor due to lack of beds.
In its latest update on casualties, Gaza's health ministry said 20,057 Palestinians had been killed and 53,320 wounded.
