The President of the International Crisis Group (ICG), Comfort Ero, conducted a patrol with the European Union civilian monitoring mission in Armenia, along the border with Azerbaijan. Ero informed about this on
X (former Twitter).
"It’s striking to see just how close the two sides’ military positions are to each other above settlements,” Ero wrote.
She added that decision of the EU to increase the staff of its aforementioned mission in Armenia is welcome, the villagers still hear frequent shootings, but the number of casualties has decreased in recent months.
The ICG president added that if Armenia an Azerbaijan engage the EU monitoring mission, it can help prevent incidents and start cooperation in cross-border projects.
The ICG calls on both sides to return to peace negotiations, including border delimitation, and the efforts by the Western partners to follow the developments are an important way in terms of creating conditions for negotiations, added the president of the International Crisis Group.
