Turkey expects from the European Union a more sensible and fair approach to the issue of Turkish membership in the community, as well as speedy steps regarding updating relations within the customs union and simplifying the visa regime, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in a telephone conversation with European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Varhelyi, TASS reports.
Fidan said the EU must take a healthier and fairer stance towards Turkey. He also noted that Turkey expects the EU to take early concrete steps on issues such as updating the customs union, expanding cooperation in the field of investments and simplifying the visa regime.
Turkey has been officially striving to become a full member of the EU since 2005. The main obstacle to the negotiations is the Cyprus problem.
