According to the Minister of Defense of Georgia, Juansher Burchuladze, in 2023, the Ministry of Defense signed important purchases in terms of strengthening the defense capability, which is responsible for the medium-term and long-term development of the Defense Forces, Interpressnews reports.
"In long-term development, we have a specific goal of where we want to go in terms of resources in 10 years. We exceeded this target by a lot, advanced it and concluded the kind of agreements in the direction of anti-aircraft systems, anti-armor systems, which have not been seen before. The EU aid of 13 million euros that we received in 2021 was a first precedent. In the following year we received 20 million, 30 million and we continue with such progress. Of course, our role as the leadership of the Ministry is big here, as well as that of our government in general," noted Juansher Burchuladze.
As the head of the Ministry of Defense explained, as a result of receiving the already signed purchases, in 2 years Georgia will have a fully protected Tbilisi sky, including strategic facilities, airports, military bases, etc.
"This has never happened in Georgia and we will achieve it. In fact, the steps already taken towards this are a guarantee of this," said the Minister.
