The Norwegian Royal Family has hosted the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo,
Royal Central reports.
King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, and Crown Princess Mette-Marit were all present for the ceremony which took place on December 10th 2023.
While almost all of the Nobel Prizes are given to the winners at a ceremony in Stockholm, the founder, Alfred Nobel, specified that the Nobel Peace Prize should be awarded in Norway.
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Narges Mohammadi this year. The Iranian activist who has campaigned for women’s rights and the abolishment of the death penalty in Iran is imprisoned in Tehran.
Her 17 year old twins, Ali and Kiana Rahmani, accepted the award on their mother’s behalf and gave the Nobel Peace Prize lecture that Mohammadi wrote and then had smuggled out of prison.
The King and Queen of Norway, along with the Crown Prince and Princess, met with Ali and Kiana privately prior to the ceremony.
All four royals attended the ceremony at Oslo City Hall. After the ceremony concluded, they met with the Mohammadi’s children again, as well as members of the Nobel Committee.
The Norwegian Royal Family then hosted the traditional Nobel banquet afterwards; it was held at the Grand Hotel in Oslo.
