Against the backdrop of Washington-Baku tension, the US assistant secretary of state left for Baku. After the meeting, James O'Brien posted on X's microblog, stating that he had a constructive conversation with Aliyev, and discussed the future of US-Azerbaijan relations.
"Constructive first conversation with President of Azerbaijan to discuss the future of U.S.-Azerbaijan relations. Establishing durable, dignified peace in the region will open historic opportunities," O'Brien
tweeted.
He also expressed support for the discussions on the opening of communications in the region.
Ilham Aliyev stated that there is a historic opportunity to achieve peace, and Washington can contribute to the process of establishing stability in the South Caucasus.
