President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the delegation headed by Raimundas Lopata, the head of the Lithuania-Armenia Friendship Group of the Lithuanian Parliament.
In his welcome remarks, the President noted, "I am delighted to host you at the presidential residence and I would like to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Lithuanian government for the humanitarian aid provided. Our relations with Lithuania are marked with warmth and friendship and have great potential for development.
I also highly appreciate the active efforts of the legislative bodies of our countries aimed at fostering parliamentary diplomacy, and in the light of this, I am confident that many issues are being discussed and resolved due to inter-parliamentary relations."
Raimundas Lopata expressed his gratitude for the reception and emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy is paramount, since in certain cases it ensures speedy and effective action.
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the Armenian-Lithuanian multilateral cooperation agenda. The close cooperation between Armenia and Lithuania on both the European Union and bilateral platforms was highly valued by both sides.
During the discussion, the interlocutors touched upon the regional realities and developments. In this context, President Vahagn Khachaturyan reaffirmed Armenia’s clear position to establish sustainable and lasting peace in the South Caucasus region, which is an essential prerequisite to the further development of all countries in the region.
At the meeting, ideas were exchanged on the directions and possibilities of addressing the social and humanitarian issues of forcibly displaced population from Nagorno-Karabakh.
