The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary stated in an interview with one of the Azerbaijani media that Budapest stands for peace in the South Caucasus. "It can be achieved through dialogue. We hope that as a result of ongoing negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, there will be a long-term reconciliation between the peoples," said Péter Szijjártó.
The diplomat referred to the mediating efforts of various actors in the process of settlement in the South Caucasus. According to him, Hungary and other European countries will not allow the European Union to carry out such activities in the region that will damage the already fragile situation.
Szijjártó also noted that Hungary is interested in the development of East-West cooperation. "Central Asia is a bridge between East and West. Azerbaijan plays a very important role in the framework of such cooperation, that country is a leading power in the region in terms of safe supply of energy carriers to Europe," added the Minister. He expressed his belief that as many corridors as possible should be opened in the region to promote trade and economic cooperation.
The Hungarian diplomat also condemned the European countries that provide military support to Kyiv, because, according to the official, peace cannot be established through military operations. "The Europeans have closed the communication channels with Russia, our country is the only one that keeps them," the Minister emphasized.
