During a press conference with the President of Iraq in Baku, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated that they are waiting for a response from Armenia to their comments on the peace treaty. "We have exchanged proposals several times regarding the draft contract, but since September 11, we have been waiting for the Government of Armenia to answer us for more than two months. We would like to know their opinion on our comments," Aliyev said, assuming that the reason is that Armenians are receiving wrong advice, particularly from France.
Aliyev stressed that Baku does not need a war and expressed the opinion that the Armenian government is thinking about revenge. "The sooner we get a response from Armenia to our comments, the better," said Ilham Aliyev.
In his speech, he stated that Armenia should plan its future based on its own national interests, not the ambitions of countries outside the region, especially those with a bloody colonial past. Aliyev stressed that no international pressure can affect the will of the Azerbaijani people and the Azerbaijani government.
"We are ready for peace, but a just peace, based on the recognition of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the two countries, peace based on common sense and historical justice," the President of Azerbaijan noted.
