France has welcomed the deposition by Armenia of its instrument of ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), the only permanent international criminal jurisdiction with a universal vocation, responsible for judging people accused of genocide, crimes against humanity, crimes of aggression and war crimes.
“Armenia thus becomes the 124th State Party to the ICC Statute. France is pleased to welcome it among the States Parties from February 1, 2024 and welcomes this important step in strengthening the fight against impunity,” the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
During her meeting on November 10 with Mr. Karim Khan, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Ms. Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, reiterated her full support for the ICC, whose role in the fight against impunity for the most serious international crimes is essential for victims to obtain justice. This is a condition of international stability.
