Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday arrived in San Francisco for a summit with U.S. President Joe Biden, and to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting, Reuters reports.
He was greeted by California Governor Gavin Newsom, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and other U.S. representatives at the San Francisco International Airport.
The China-U.S. summit meeting between Xi and Biden will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two presidents since their meeting in Bali, Indonesia, a year ago.
The two presidents will have in-depth communication on issues of strategic, overarching and fundamental importance in shaping China-U.S. relations and major issues concerning world peace and development, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Monday.
China views and handles its relations with the U.S. in accordance with the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation proposed by President Xi, according to the spokeswoman.
San Francisco is the host city for APEC Leaders' Week 2023 from Nov 11 to 17, with the theme of "Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All".
Xi's entourage includes Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the foreign minister.
