Armenia will never buy used armaments, a senior Armenian parliamentarian said.
MP Andranik Kocharyan, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security Affairs, said at 2024 budget debates that next year’s budget can be viewed as a “security budget”.
“The Finance Minister presented the [defense spending of 2024] figure of 555 billion drams, which is more than the expenditures envisaged for 2023, but what matters is that we discussed in the closed meeting the structure of the spending related to the armaments and all ongoing projects,” Kocharyan said.
He said that the closed session focused on the volumes of armaments, which are exclusively defensive arms.
“But the main idea placed in the content of armaments is that aside of being defensive they must be brand new. The Republic of Armenia will never acquire used defensive armaments,” Kocharyan said.
He said that the fortification and reinforcement works are “impressive” and will continue.
