After detailed negotiations on the issue of Palestine on the sidelines of the ECO Summit in Uzbekistan, the Presidents of Iran and Turkey emphasised the need to take practical and effective decisions at the summit of Islamic countries in Riyadh and said that the bombing of Gaza should be stopped immediately and the blockade of Gaza should be lifted, Iranian President’s press office reports.
In this meeting, the Iranian President described Iran-Turkey relations as developing and emphasised on the provision of grounds for further development of relations, especially in the commercial and economic sector, and its promotion to higher levels.
Dr Raisi described the oil and gas sector as one of the areas of cooperation between the two countries and, referring to the very good capacities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this field, expressed hope that the two countries would take more effective steps in this field at the current stage.
In another part of the meeting, the President described the issue of Palestine and “the terrible crimes … in Gaza as the most important concern of the two countries, but also the Islamic world and humanity, and while appreciating the Turkish President's support for the people of Gaza”, he stated, “We believe that in the current situation, we should go beyond the declaration of positions, and practical steps should be taken for an immediate ceasefire, lifting the blockade of Gaza and providing aid to the oppressed people of this region”.
