Reuters. Heavy rain that has swollen rivers in the wake of Storm Ciaran caused floodwaters to burst banks in northern France on Tuesday (November 7).
Red alerts are in place in France’s Pas-de-Calais department along the Aa and Liane rivers, and authorities said several roads were blocked.
Municipal worker Sylvia Grare, whose house is flooded, said she will wait to assess the damage and stay with her daughter in the meantime.
"It's just material goods, everyone tells us, there are no injuries...we will see the extent of the damage. In the meantime, we can do nothing but weep," she said.
Authorities warned that driving conditions would be “extremely difficult”, and that power outages could occur.
According to La Voix du Nord, schools were closed in 69 towns and villages.
