Reuters. Japan's Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, and Defence Minister, Minoru Kihara, met their British counterparts in Tokyo on Tuesday (November 7) ahead of the G7 foreign ministers' meeting scheduled for this week.
A joint statement released after the "2+2" meeting called for a "humanitarian pause" in the conflict in Gaza, which has been bombarded by Israel in retaliation for an attack by Hamas militants on southern Israel on Oct 7 that killed 1,400 people.
Kamikawa reiterated that call at a news conference following the ministerial meeting, stating that Japan and the United Kingdom agreed on the need to co-operate in securing such a pause.
Health officials in Gaza say more than 10,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed so far by the Israeli bombing.
