The private conversation between German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan was followed by an extended meeting, then a press conference, during which the head of German diplomacy expressed her country's support for the territorial integrity of Armenia and Azerbaijan and commitment to establishing peace in the region.
Baerbock also announced that Germany will not leave Armenia alone during the resolution of the issues of displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh and informed about providing additional 9.3 million euros of support.
"Berlin wants to strengthen the EU civilian mission in Armenia," the German Foreign Minister emphasized. Ararat Mirzoyan assured that Yerevan intends to deepen relations with the European Union and member states sharing the same value system with Armenia, both in political and security terms.
Minister Baerbock was asked whether Germany is ready to give up Azerbaijani gas and oil in case of an attack on Armenia by that state. The German journalist asked Ararat Mirzoyan about the current state of Armenian-Russian relations.
"It was a big challenge for the Armenian Government to accept so many people from Nagorno-Karabakh. The Armenian Government remained calm and took all possible steps and invested capital to support these people, which deserves our respect. You opened your heart and offered your help to many people, including women, children, elderly people from Nagorno-Karabakh. We will not leave you alone in this matter. After 2022, we have provided great support to the Government of Armenia and will provide an additional 9.3 million euros in humanitarian aid to overcome these challenges,” Baerbock said.
