The EU mission in Armenia opened its headquarters in Yeghegnadzor. The head of the mission, Markus Ritter, stated that the region deserves lasting peace and stability, expressing hope that together they will be able to contribute to the realization of this goal.
Markus Ritter emphasized that during the 8 months of the mission's activity, 23 countries of the European Union joined it, sending 93 observers. During the opening ceremony of the office, the head of the mission said that at the moment they are able to conduct observation along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
"The situation on the border is very calm, our observers, who walk around every day, have not registered an increase in tension. It's obviously a quiet period. We have six offices in the Republic of Armenia, our observers travel not only in the border zone, but also in the communities and settlements close to it, which feel the impact of the conflict. I can say that 1/3 of the observers go to the border and 2/3 to the communities. The issue of expanding the mandate of the mission and increasing the number of observers should be discussed in Brussels at the end of this year, we are waiting for the results," said Markus Ritter, head of the EU mission in Armenia.
