The fact that Azerbaijan forwarded regular proposals for the draft peace treaty is not something that has happened recently. I don't know why it is circulating in the press again. We have received them for some time now. It is our turn to give our next answer. During the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan said this while answering the question about the peace agenda.
"If we also receive the approval of the leader of Azerbaijan for the upcoming meetings, the meeting of the leaders of the two countries will certainly be another step that will bring us to peace, and also in terms of the mere text of the peace treaty, I want to express cautious optimism again,” the Minister said.
Speaking about the usefulness of the ‘3+3’ platform, Mirzoyan reminded that at the recent meeting in Tehran, this platform created an opportunity for him and the Turkish Foreign Minister to meet. “On that platform, we had informal contact with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. Although the unofficial implies a certain ephemerality, we touched upon some issues,” said Ararat Mirzoyan.
He emphasized that in general Armenia is interested in developing its relations with all countries with which it deals in one way or another.
“We have historically formed relations with Russia and relations fixed by certain legal documents. We have relations with the EU, USA, Canada and with many other countries in the West, East, North and South. Soon, we are also interested in having normal relations with our neighbors.
Unfortunately, we do not have relations with 2 of our 4 immediate neighbors and have a heavy history of deep conflict. Now we are making all our possible efforts so that all those relations are settled, and those that are settled, develop further. We are interested in it.
I don't think there is a state that does not want to develop relations with its neighbors in its region in a harmonious, peaceful and mutually beneficial atmosphere. In this regard, the ‘3+3’ platform is a good discussion platform, I think it is a useful platform, but we should not limit ourselves to this platform.
We talked a lot and should continue to talk about the Crossroads of Peace. We not only want to regulate political relations, start a political dialogue, but also in economic, logistic, transit, cultural, many different spheres. The best picture of our intentions and our ideas is the Crossroads of Peace,” said Mirzoyan.
