Indeed, the Russian side applied to open a consulate general in Kapan in the prescribed manner, and Armenia, considering all possible nuances in the prescribed manner, gave its positive conclusion, its consent. During the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session, referring to the question of Marina Ghazaryan, deputy of the 'Civil Contract' faction, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said.
"It will be difficult to say at which stage the Russian Federation is opening the consulate, but at any stage they cooperate with the relevant departments of the Republic of Armenia," Mirzoyan said.
He emphasized that today there is an interest among various countries to open consulates in Syunik, to have a presence in any way. "Iran already has, France announced such an intention. There are other countries. There is a conversation, but since there are no final agreements, I would not like to reveal it," said Armenia's Foreign Minister.
"The international presence in any region will contribute to revitalizing the economic life of the given region, but it also contains political messages," Ararat Mirzoyan said.
