Friendship between Canada and Armenia is based on deep ties between peoples. Honestly, when I come back here, I feel like I'm back in the arms of my family. Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said this during a joint press conference with Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at the Foreign Ministry.
According to her, more than 60 thousand people of Armenian origin consider Canada their homeland. The Armenian community in Canada is vibrant, dynamic and a significant contributor to the life of Canadian cities, including Mélanie Joly's hometown of Montreal.
"Canada stands by the people of Armenia, supporting the sovereignty and independence of the Armenian people. We believe in your democratic aspirations and are ready to work with you to make them a reality.
Today is an important milestone in the relations between Canada and Armenia. I am glad to note that today we will officially open the new Canadian Embassy in Yerevan. We gave that promise to the Armenian people last year and we have kept that promise. Thanks to the Canadian Embassy, Canadian diplomats will come to Yerevan to further strengthen and deepen our relations and support democratic reforms in Armenia," she said.
