Armenia and Iran signed today an agreement on the repair of Agarak-Vardanidzor road section (about 21 km) and construction of a road from Vardanidzor to tunnel exit (about 11 km) as part of the 4th tranche of a project to build North-South transport corridor.
The agreement was signed by the Executive Director of Armenian Road Department Foundation Gor Avetisyan and Ali Mousavi and Alen Yousefian, representatives of a joint Iranian venture Abad Rahan Pars Iranian International Group and Tounel Sad Ariana.
Once repaired, these roads will meet advanced international criteria in terms of both road safety, convenience and travel time reduction. Five new forks, 6 new flyovers, 2 new tunnels with a total length of 920 meters and 17 new bridges are to be built.
The program is financed by a loan provided by the Eurasian Development Bank. Part of finance is to be provided by Armenian government. The work is to start at the end of 2023 and be completed within three years.
